Do your friends tell you you should’ve been a musi? Do your poems put Maya Angelou to shame? Does your art belong in the Louvre? Do you dream of sharing your creative genius with the Rice community!
If you answered yes to any of the above: apply to Espresso Yourself at Coffeehouse!

This semester, Espresso Yourself will be held on Thursday Nights.
Espresso Yourself: Performance
Espresso Yourself: Art
Rice student artists are often hard-pressed to find spaces to display their work, and starting this year Coffeehouse is proud to offer a way to do so. Every semester, we will feature student art in part of our café space–a centrally-located, extremely well-traveled and well-loved facet of campus. If you have made beautiful 2-d art that you want to see on our walls, please apply to showcase your work through EY: Art!
Applications to participate in EY: Art for Fall Semester 2018 will be due on Friday, April 20, 2018.
What if I’m not a musician?
That’s awesome too! We would love to have variety in our acts, so poets, comedians and other talented entertaining folks wanted.
How long do acts usually last?
Anywhere from 30 mins to 1 hour but we are flexible!
Will y’all advertise for me?
We’ll put up signs around Coffeehouse the Monday before but we HIGHLY recommend you create a Facebook event and invite your friends for best attendance.
New art will be advertised each semester.
What if I’m not free Wednesdays?
We try and schedule on the same night so we can coordinate with other performers and with Coffeehouse employees. Definitely feel free to email the EY team at firstname.lastname@example.org and potentially something can be worked out. No promises though!
What equipment do y’all have for performers?
- 6 channel mixer
- 2 speakers
- 2 boom mics
- 2 microphones
- 2 1/4″ cables
Artists are responsible for providing backing and protection (i.e., a frame) for all of their art. This is just to make sure that no coffee gets spilled on it, and no one accidentally tears it!
Can I bring my own equipment?
Sure… As long as you know what you’re doing with it, and can set it up, we’re cool with it.
I have an acoustic guitar that does not plug in. Can we just put a microphone in front of it?
NO 🙁 Sorry! Historically that has created nasty sounds and/or feedback. Please try to borrow a guitar that does! Otherwise we will have to leave it unamplified.
