April 29, 1967: Coffeehouse’s predecessor, Hanszen Coffeehouse, opens. Later known as Breadsticks and Pomegranates, the coffeehouse operates in Hanszen’s basement but later closes due to flooding.
Dec. 3, 1990: Rice Coffeehouse officially opens, serving coffee temporarily in the RMC courtyard and Sammy’s PDR.
Oct. 22, 2004: Coffeehouse announces plans to undergo renovations over the summer. With a budget of approximately $20,000, Coffeehouse considers making its look more aesthetically pleasing.
Nov. 16, 2005: Coffeehouse began serving organically grown and fair-trade-certified coffee from Katz Coffee, a Houston-based roaster.
Feb. 22, 2010: Coffeehouse General Manager Erin Rouse announces an aggressive bid to expand into the Brochstein Pavilion. However, Coffeehouse is not allowed to bid for the space.
Dec. 3, 2010: Coffeehouse celebrates its 20th birthday by serving coffee at its opening night prices. Birthday cake syrup and sprinkles are also available.
